KS3 Computing

Curriculum Intent

From personal computers to smartphones, from apps to websites,

all of our lives, every day, are enhanced through the use of computer

hardware and programming technology. The Key Stage 3 Computer

Science and ICT reflects this and provides students with a solid foundation for understanding and applying this subject in their future education and working lives in some of the most dynamic and well paid industries in the UK.

Programmes of Study

The curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation. Pupils can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems. They can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems and are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

Marking and Assessment

By the end of each year’s curriculum, pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study in preparation for an early entry KEY Stage 4 course in ICT and/or selection of GCSE Computer Science in Year 10. Each unit per half term will be assessed by classwork projects and by a written theory test.

Revision Guides/Supporting Resources

All revision materials will be provided by the Department and online access to a virtual learning environment and interactive homework system.
