Curriculum Intent
The Music curriculum at Walton-le-Dale High School aims to
develop the musical ability of all students through a wide range
of performance and composition activities. Students are exposed
to a wide range of music from various cultures. All students are given the opportunity to apply through Lancashire Music Service to learn a musical instrument with our team of specialist peripatetic teachers providing Brass, Woodwind, Strings, Percussion, Keyboard and Vocal Tuition. The curriculum aims to develop student confidence and social skills through performance and develop individuality through composition activities.

Marking and Assessment
Students are continually assessed lesson by lesson on their progress according to the Music Progress Ladder. This may be given in the form of verbal feedback, peer and self-assessments or a more formal written assessment by the teacher at the end of each half term.
Examinations
There are no examinations in KS3 Music.

Careers and Progression
This course provides a foundation for KS4 study of performing arts and GCSE Music, specifically for those choosing the music option.
There are level 2 and level 3 courses to study music available in further education on both an A Level or Vocational route, looking at both performing and producing music.
As a Music student, you will develop a range of skills that will stand you in good stead for music-related careers, but that are also transferable to a very wide range of jobs.
