Cambridge National Sport

Curriculum Intent

 

The Cambridge Nationals in Sport Studies take a more sector-based focus, whilst also encompassing some core sport/physical education themes. Learners have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge about different types of sport and physical activity, skills development and sports leadership to their own practical performance. They will learn about contemporary issues in sport such as funding, participation, ethics and role models, and sport and the media. Learners will develop an appreciation of the importance of sport locally and nationally, different ways of being involved in sport and of how this shapes the sports industry.

Marking and Assessment

All assessments will be marked in accordance with the criteria set by the Governing body Cambridge National

Examinations

Mandatory

R051: Contemporary issues in sport

Written paper, OCR set and marked, 1 hour – 60 marks (60 UMS), Learners answer all questions.

R052: Developing sports skills,

Centre assessed tasks, OCR moderated 60 marks (60 UMS), Learners should spend approximately 10 hours on the assessment tasks

 

Optional

R053: Sports leadership,

Centre assessed tasks, OCR moderated 60 marks (60 UMS), Learners should spend approximately 10 hours on the assessment tasks

R054: Sport and the media,

Centre assessed tasks, OCR moderated 60 marks, (60 UMS), Learners should spend approximately 10 hours on the assessment tasks

 

 

Revision Guides/Supporting Resources

Resources such as PowerPoint etc for each class are either on ‘office 365 teams’ or ‘the school network ‘classwork, student shared area’.

Careers and Progression

This Cambridge National in Sports Studies complements vocational qualifications including Health and Social Care, IT, Fitness Training and Performing Arts. It is also a great partner for, Sociology, Maths and English Language.

Upon completion, learners can progress to A-levels, Technical Certificates and other Level 3 vocational qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma in Sports.

Students may progress to university to study a variety of courses, including Sports Science, Sports Studies, Leisure Management, Teaching, Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy and others.
