On Wednesday 28th November, five of our intrepid students travelled to Heysham for our second annual visit to the nuclear power station. The day started by exploring the visitor centre and winning the team quiz against the three other schools in attendance. Our students showed excellent teamwork and critical thinking skills as they planned how the U.K. could use a mix of energy resources to meet our energy requirements with the least financial and environmental costs.
The afternoon was filled by a fascinating tour of the site where students were surprised by the massive scale of the equipment. All the students had a fun and interesting day and are enthused to find out more about careers in engineering.
Thank you to Helen Heggie at STEMFirst and the staff from EDF Heysham Power Station 2 for organising this opportunity for our future engineers.
