The photo at the top of this update is from the Amnesty group's Egg Hunt.  This was organised in support of the "egg boy" who demonstrated against Senator Anning in Australia and against his views that the Christchurch mosque shooting was caused by Muslim immigration.  More information can be found in our news article here.  This is a really important part of our work as a school - that our students care about issues of justice and equality across the world.

I have the pleasure of taking the first week of assemblies in each half term and all my assemblies this year have been addressing the questions around the purpose of being in school!  This week I spoke about 16 year-old Greta Thunberg and her campaign for climate change and how the attributes that she shows - courage, ability to speak clearly, knowledge, compassion... are those that we seek to develop in our students. Education really matters and so, as I said in each of my assemblies "Leave your social life and any gossip outside the door and focus entirely on the vital matter of learning".

On a very practical level we have checked for basic equipment.  We sell stationery in school for a minimal charge so there is really no excuse for students not having the basic equipment for learning.  Please help us by reinforcing this with your son or daughter.

Year 11 Revision plan:  This week is "Week 10" (of 11!) - if you are the parent or carer of a Year 11 please make sure that they are using the plan (https://www.waltonledale.lancs.sch.uk/curriculum/revision).  GCSE's are getting very close indeed!

Year 10 exams:  These begin at the end of this week, in a change to the published calendar.  The reason for the change is the need to fit all the examinations into the available time before the full GCSEs start.  The exam timetable is here - please ensure your son or daughter has the correct equipment (especially a black pen) for the exams.

Upcoming events - please keep an eye on the calendar

Our WLD Career of the Week is "Care Worker".  Our Thought for the Week is "Wisdom and Learning"

Have a good week ...
