WLD Update for Parents & Carers - Friday 31 March 2023

It has been a very emotional day for everyone at Walton Le Dale today as we said our goodbyes and best wishes to Mr. Harris. Mr. Harris has served the school for a total of 17 years I believe, the past 6 as Headteacher. It was evident from the reactions of students today that he will be sorely missed and the impact he has made on staff and students was humbling.

The assembly held in his honour was delivered by the Year 11 leadership team and we were blown away by their confidence. Delivering assemblies is difficult after many years of teaching, I still get anxious about standing before the entire school community, so to do this before their peers was really quite remarkable. We were also moved by the choir sing, "Half the world away" and the performance by students of "So Long, Farewell", from The Sound of Music. The presents presented to Mr. Harris from the student body showed both incredible thought and kindness. I am incredibly proud to be given the honour of continuing the fabulous work which Mr. Harris has achieved here.

Have a restful break and I look forward to working with all the students and staff next term.

Updates to uniform

Bus service reminder - Mrs Eckersley has secured 1 bus to Blackburn and 1 bus to Preston, this service will start on 17.04.2023 and places can be reserved via Parentpay.

• The Preston service will follow the usual route.
• The Blackburn service will follow the late bus Blackburn route.
• There will be no late buses.
• The cost of the bus pass will be £100 per month, per student.
• There is limited space available on the buses.

Free School Meal Vouchers – The government has granted FSM vouchers for the Easter period; this allocation is £30 per eligible student for the 2 weeks (£15 per week). You should receive the vouchers via email on Friday 31^st March 2023. Please ensure you check your junk and spam emails before contacting school, the emails are sent directly from Edenred.

Years 8 and 9

HPV & DTP/ACWY - Reminder that the immunisation team will be in school on Friday 21^st April to administer the HPV vaccine to years 8 and 9 and the DTP/ACWY vaccine catch-ups to those students who missed first time round.
