Image of WLD Update for Parents & Carers Tuesday 12th May 2020

Good afternoon,

I said yesterday that I would be unlikely to send a parents' & carers' update today!  Yesterday evening, however, the government issued its guidance for schools following Boris Johnson's speech on Sunday.  Given the amount of comment in the press and social media I thought that it was best to send you the links to the guidance so that you were fully informed.

The information for parents & carers is here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/closure-of-educational-settings-information-for-parents-and-carers and the guidance for school is here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-educational-and-childcare-settings-to-prepare-for-wider-opening-from-1-june-2020.

In summary, as I said to staff this morning, quoting the guidance - “From 1 June 2020, we expect that secondary schools and colleges will be able to offer some face to face contact with year 10 and year 12 pupils. This will not be a return to full timetables or pupils back in school or college full time, rather some support to supplement pupils’ remote education.”  As I said yesterday we will not proceed in haste and we will take all relevant guidance.  We will make careful plans over the coming days and then communicate them clearly so all of us know what is going on.  Health, safety and wellbeing are our top priorities.

Best wishes
