Image of WLD Update for Parents & Carers - Tuesday 20th July 2021

Good morning,

This is just a short final update to thank all parents and carers for your support of the school during a very challenging year.  I will be in touch with practical updates as we approach the start of the new school year - please note the practical notices on last Friday's update about dates of return in September, uniform and equipment orders etc....

Timetables for next year:  To reduce anxiety amongst some of our students we are issuing provisional timetables for September today.  These are subject to change, but will give students a good idea of their timetable for when they return.  Any queries about these timetables, please email Mrs Wall (Assistant Headteacher) on p.wall@waltonledale.lancs.sch.uk.  If your son or daughter is self-isolating at the moment and would like to have an indication of their timetable please ask them to email Mrs Wall directly.

Reading:  Please strongly encourage your son or daughter to read over the next few weeks - our free online library "e-platform" is a great place to start.  The link is https://waltonledale.eplatform.co/ and all the details about accessing it are on our website at https://www.waltonledale.lancs.sch.uk/teaching-and-learning/we-are-a-reading-school

Prefects and Head Student team: It has been great to see the new prefects getting their ties yesterday in preparation for September.  The Head Student team, including the Head Boy and Head Girl will be announced in assemblies today.

Reminder: COVID testing at the start of next term:  The government has published information about the rules regarding COVID and the guidance for parents and carers is here.   Please see the link here for the letter which has been sent out regarding testing.  The consent form can also be found here. If you haven't already filled this in, please can you do so as soon as possible.

Years 8 and 9:  Missed HPV vaccinations - The nurses always try to catch up with any missed pupils when they are next in school however this year they are holding vaccination clinics during the summer holidays.  They will be contacting parents directly to arrange appointment times at the various venues if they have a consent form for your child.  If you have any queries please contact the Immunisation Team on 0333 357 3358 option 6 if you feel your child has missed any vaccinations and they can arrange a clinic with you and take verbal consent that way too.

Staff leaving:  There are a small number of staff leaving us this year - all have given long and distinguished service to the school and our students.  Mrs Rigby is retiring after 17 years teaching in our English department.  Mrs Ellery, Mrs Redmayne and Mrs Purvis are all leaving our strong team of teaching assistants, having worked at Walton-le-Dale for 26, 11 and 8 years respectively.  We wish them all the very best in the future and thank them for their commitment to our school and our young people.

Free school meals:  Vouchers were emailed out yesterday - please check your junk or spam folders if you cannot locate them.

Many thanks for all your support and I wish you and your family all the very best over the coming weeks.  Stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back in September.

Best wishes

James Harris
