Good morning,

Some updates this morning, particularly following the announcements yesterday....

Return to school: As the Prime Minister announced yesterday we are very much looking forward to the return of all our students in the week beginning the 8th March.  We received the detailed guidance for schools yesterday evening and, as I hope you would expect, we will work through it quickly and carefully and be in touch in the coming days with the practicalities of student return.

"Reading Day" on Monday 1st March:  We are aware that a significant number of our students are concerned that they are not being able to complete all the work set in a particular lesson or that some of their work has not been submitted.  With that in mind normal lessons will be suspended next Monday so that students can work on whichever subject they need to.  Staff will be available to respond to messages for assistance from any of their students.  If students have completed and submitted everything then there will be a range of reading challenges for them to undertake.  These have already been circulated to students via Teams and will be on the website on our "Walton Reads" page

Year 7 Parents' and Carers' Evening:  Bookings are now open - all the information is on the website.

"Being part of Walton-le-Dale":  Following a discussion at a governors' meeting I have been renewing the old "home-school agreement" which has existed in the student planners basically unchanged for years and has fallen into disuse.  I have rewritten it as a statement which applies to everyone - students, parents & carers, staff and governors - all who are part of our school.  It is on the website for you to have a look at and let me know if you have any comments.

Contacting teachers:  I am aware that a small number of parents & carers have been using their child's Teams account to contact teachers.  While this is undoubtedly convenient we need to know that messages are coming from the person associated with the account.  If you want to get in touch with one of your child's teachers and you don't know their email address please just use one of the normal email addresses (head@waltonledale.lancs.sch.uk is usually best) and we will forward the message to the relevant person. Many thanks.

We are really looking forward to seeing our students back and the school being full of students again - that is how we are meant to be!  I will be in touch again in the coming days with detailed information about the arrangements for return.

Best wishes

James Harris
