Good afternoon,

COVID:  Last week we had to send Year 11 home to self-isolate until tomorrow (Monday) and today I have received notification of a positive case in Year 9 (information is being sent to Year 9 families separately).  The incidence of the virus is still high in our communities, as we know.  Please would you discuss with your son or daughter the particular importance of following the government guidance to all of us at this time.  The government is very clear that schools must remain open until the end of term, but the consequence of that is if I am notified of a positive case in the final week of this term then I will be in the distressing situation of having to send instructions to lots of students to self-isolate well into the Christmas period.  Absolutely no-one wants that to happen.  I will be speaking to all students about this tomorrow (via my usual video messages) and please would you discuss this with them.

Uniform:  I have received some requests from parents and carers that plain ankle boots be allowed as part of the school uniform given the amount of time that students spend outside.  Having consulted with staff we believe that this is a good idea and so "plain black flat-soled ankle boots" will be allowed as part of the school uniform for the rest of this school year.

Christmas:  We are all looking forward to the Christmas period and there are nice things happening in school, despite the constraints placed on us by the virus!  Our annual "Christmas Jumper Day" is on Friday this week (Friday 11th December) when students are welcome to wear a Christmas jumper in addition to their uniform, or to add some Christmas decoration to their uniform that day.  Please also be aware that we finish at lunchtime on the final day (Friday 18th December) and the buses will run early on that day.  Exact details will be sent out shortly.

Reminder about equipment:  The list of required equipment is on the website.  Please check that your son or daughter has all the required stationery and replace if necessary.  You can buy additional complete stationery packs from us via Parentpay if needed.

As always, please keep an eye on Classcharts for information about the day to day attitude of your child and keep an eye on the website for updates - we will always signpost these on Facebook and Twitter.  This week we have sent out communications about changes to Year 7 groups, about self-isolation and about our virtual Presentation Evening.

Best wishes to you and to all those you care for.
