  • Spelling of subject-specific vocabulary
  • Use of WAGOLLs to model/scaffold (visualisers, mini-whiteboards)

  • Purposeful and structured communication with others

This Week:

  • Trainees and NQTs – starting to prepare for assessments.
  • New staff and trainee CPD – virtual CPD this week on the theme of SEND.  Materials to be disseminated this week.
  • Reminders:
    • As is our policy, continue to add lesson resources into weekly folders for each class in Teams.
    • Use Oak National Academy (or other online lesson bank) for cover lessons.
  • Golden Rules – please be relentless in applying these rules as they work when used rigorously by all.  Using them in every lesson, every day supports everyone – including our students.

Link to this term’s CPD focus – Reading and Understanding

As we all know, developing the independence of our students as readers has been a priority over the course of the last term.  The Reciprocal Reading approach is one of our strategies and is part of our T&L Policy.

Granted, the ‘prediction’ element of this process may not always lend itself to certain subject areas; however, the remaining three processes absolutely do: question, clarify and summarise.  These skills are clearly interlinked with Blooms’ Taxonomy in the lower order skills.  For our students to move to the higher order skills, we need to set the foundations:

So this week, reflect on your use of Reciprocal Reading approaches.  If you are not using them, establish the reasons why and discuss within your subject area (or with RLO). Attached to this TLD are some resources that may enable you to embed within your own classroom practice.
