Teaching and Learning Priorities
Climate for learning – students will be enthused by their learning and will be focused, absorbed and attentive (DMC).
Vocabulary – the words that we use and expect the students to be able to use in context, to succeed in their lives beyond Walton le Dale High School (ACH).
Purposeful Interactions by all – if students are communicating, it must be purposeful allow their needs to be met. Interactions should enhance the learning of ALL students at ALL times (CRO).
This Week:
- The thought for the week this week is ‘Mental Health’. Assemblies will be led by DMC.
- NQTs – Meetings will continue this week: JMJ – Tuesday period 3; RHU – Tuesday period 4; both in RLO’s office
- New Staff (incl. JGA) and NQTs – induction CPD Thursday 10th October in conference room: JWI and PWA – assessment and curriculum.
- Wednesday – CRO delivering a Top Tip on cooperative learning. SLT will cover duties.
- Friday - DHT and Lead Practitioner from Priory meeting with RLO and may be around school period 2 and 3.
Reflect on Your Practice:
As mentioned over the last few weeks, Ofsted’s new Education Inspection Framework (EIF) offers a series of prompts to allow us to reflect on our own teaching and learning practice within school. Use these prompts to reflect on your on teaching. The highlighted prompt is the focus of this Digest.

On Wednesday, CRO is going to share some strategies to encourage cooperative learning in class. How, as teachers, do we encourage cooperation – not simply as a way of adding variety to our lessons – as a way of enhancing and facilitating optimum progress?
The key to this strategy is to ask the correct kinds of questions: challenging, well thought out and perhaps abstract or conceptual questions to allow learners the scope to apply and synthesise the knowledge that we have presented to them.
Top Tip Schedule
Subject Heads, please ensure that someone from your department is ready to share a ‘Top Tip’ on the designated date.

Open Door Week
Making time to drop-in on one of your colleagues will have been valuable CPD. Hopefully, you made time to participate. Our second ODW of the year is coming up in Novembe. In an attempt to clarify your thoughts on what useful learning you could draw out of your wanderings, email RLO a one-line top tip of something that you gleaned as an observer. Prizes will be drawn on Monday morning.
